Lapping

In lapping, a mixture of oil and corundum powder on a cast steel plate is used instead of grinding stones.

The side of the work piece to be lapped is moved in circular movements on the plate, inside a cast ring. Material is thus removed by uniform grinding, resulting in surfaces that are as flat as possible, with a tolerance of less than 2 μm.

We mainly use lapping for processing work pieces with diameters of 10-50 mm, e.g. for contact surfaces in heat transfer parts, valve spools, seals and other machine components that must be 100 % flat.

In terms of materials, lapping can be used to finely grind basically anything that requires a correspondingly precise surface. May we prove it to you? We look forward to your query!
